Career Center Mission
To foster current relationships and environments that are serving the Whittier College Community in career development and to create a college culture of career mindfulness. To serve as a central hub for Whittier College community for all career, professional, and personal development needs.
Current programs and services
Individual Career Coaching – 50-minute individualized sessions ranging in topics from career exploration to job and graduate school preparedness.
Career Events – promote student to industry connections by providing a variety of career events.

- Hiring Summits via online platform, Handshake
- “Thriving Authentically” Series (incorporating a diversity, equity and inclusion lens to career development)
- “Professions with Purpose” (focus on a variety of professions and how they aim to make change)
- Employer led informational sessions
- Professional Learning series – focusing on assessing and integrating student cultural and community wealth to their job search processes
Professional Development Workshops
- Graduate School Preparation (ranging from the decision making and application process to preparing for entrance exams and personal statement writing)
- Job Search Readiness (ranging from application to interviewing to negotiation strategies)
- Mock interviewing sessions
- Peace Corps Prep Program
Handshake – online service available 24/7 for students, alumni and employers to connect
Internship Development and Guidance – support students and employer partners in developing and maximizing internship opportunities through our Internship Program and course (INTD 299), which is offered summer, fall and spring.
CCPD Fundraising Initiatives
Peer Career Advisors Program – Funding 3 peer career advisors that will work directly with students with advising, resume building and interviewing skills
Expansion of support via accessible hands-on learning and training center – funding central location for career center to offer a space that more accessibly offers regular services as well as additional hands-on trainings and experiential learning such as:
- Increase career assessment tools: DISC, StregthsFinder,
- Create professional attire closet: fund continuous flow of professional attire pieces or access to purchase individual pieces to wear at interviews or hiring career events
- Career Treks: offer funding for local and non-local visits to companies and organizations that support career exploration (can cover travel expenses)
- Internship support: training and funding source for unpaid internships off campus
- Technical: Excel, Adobe, Coding, Tableu
- Conferences: travel expenses, registration fees, lodging and preparation
